Chris Evans On Playing Captain America: 'I'm A Little Scared, To Be Honest'

.....to be honest, so are we. Demonstrating his mastery of shallow, pallid acting in masterpieces like Fantastic Four and Robot Chicken, it beggars belief that he has been handed the mantle of playing arguably Marvel comics greatest character. When will Hollywood studio executives learn to listen to the fanboys? It's not that our voice is unheard.

Online fans made their feelings known in support of potential Caps such as Mark Valley (best known from Boston Legal) or popular fan choice John Barrowman, star of British sci-fi tv show Torchwood.

To this comic-head, the choice of Chris Evans to play Cap reeks of Hollywood big-money playing it safe, with a multi-demographic pleasing Chris Evans. Just read what Evans himself has to say about his motivation for accepting the coveted role- "It was tricky saying yes. A couple of sleepless nights were involved...But I said, "Well, if you do this, hopefully it will enable me to make whatever I'd like to make in the future." That's an opportunity you want. It's chess, really. Sometimes this one move isn't going to bring you everything you want, but five moves down the line it just may. So, again, it was pros and cons, and the pros won out."
Ugh. Hollywood politics wins over art yet again. Chris Evans as Captain America is as promising an idea as Ben Affleck as Daredevil.
When will the fat-cat Hollywood bean-counters learn that the will of the fanboys/girls make or break super hero movies at the box-office? Ask Chris Nolan, he knows. Or Jon Favreau.
And on a personal note, man , I'm just gutted. Captain America has been one of my mega-faves since I was a kid. He's the cornerstone of the whole Marvel universe. He demands justice!

"Ass....kick! Heh heh..."

Now we're talking. I went to see Kick-Ass with a 'non-fanboy' friend of mine who left the cinema glowing and said it was one of the best movies he's ever seen. Oh yeah.
While my devotion to the Bat-epics of Chris Nolan is all consuming, and my enthusiasm for new super hero movies is stifled by my constant yearning for any news of Bat 3, I must say that this movie rocked-big time.
No cartoon-taboos were ignored. Without revealing spoilers, the amount of child violence alone would have earned 'Kick-Ass' its R18 certificate. While not on the level of gut-churning-adrenaline-pumped-suspense as say Scarface, it certainly has moments that would make even the most thick-skinned action junky wince.
Personal highlight- Nic Cage's turn as crime-fighter Big Daddy has just the right amount of tongue-in-cheek and fanboy reverence- who in their right mind would not want to dress up as Batman and shoot bad guys?
PS...HOT OFF THE PRESS....it looks like Cage will not be re-prising his role as Ghost Rider in the upcoming sequel due to scheduling conflicts...shame. We like Nic.

Son of Sir Howie strikes back.....

With principle photography scheduled to begin this month on director Martin Campbell's highly anticipated "Green Lantern" movie, two additional actors have joined the cast: "Star Wars" actor Temuera Morrison and Taika Waititi.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Morrison will portray Abin Sur — the Green Lantern who gives Hal Jordan his power ring before dying — and Waititi will play Hal Jordan's best friend. They join a cast that includes Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Tim Robbins, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard and Martin Strong.
Earlier this month, it was announced that test footage for "Green Lantern" was being filmed in New Orleans that revolved around a stunt car. In the "Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn" miniseries, Hal Jordan is behind the wheel of a car accident that seriously injures his best friend. If that incident is being used in the film, then Waititi's character may be the one who is hurt in the crash.
Waititi is a well-known filmmaker and actor in his native New Zealand. He received an Oscar nomination for his short film "Two Cars, One Night" and has also directed an episode of "Flight of the Conchords." Morrison is perhaps best known for his role as Jango Fett in "Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of The Clones."
Warner Bros. recently revealed that "Green Lantern" will be released in 3D when it hits theaters in the USA June 2011
